Copper sulfate – pentahydrate, CuSO4 x 5H2O, also known as blue vitriol, bluestone, vitriol of copper and Roman vitriol, can be used for cleaning and impregnation of mineral specimens. In mineralogy experiments works well as a chemical to grow perfect triclinic crystals of Chalcanthite. Copper sulfate is an irritant (in case of skin or eye contact), upon oral exposure is copper sulfate moderately toxic.
